  • You’ll first undergo a diagnostic prostate MRI, scheduled as a separate appointment.
  • The MRI technologist will position you on the MRI table.
  • The MRI will capture detailed images of your prostate and surrounding areas.
  • This painless procedure usually takes 45-60 minutes.
  • You may receive a contrast dye to improve image accuracy.
  • After the MRI, you can immediately return to normal activities.

Image Analysis

  • Our expert radiologists will carefully review your MRI images.
  • They’ll identify any suspicious areas and create 3D versions of these images.
  • This information is then sent to your urologist for use during the biopsy.

Ultrasound-Guided Biopsy

  • On a separate visit, you’ll undergo the fusion biopsy as an outpatient procedure.
  • You may receive a mild sedative and local anesthetic for comfort.
  • The procedure begins with a digital rectal exam.
  • An ultrasound probe is inserted into the rectum to guide the biopsy.
  • Your urologist will use the UroNav system to fuse the MRI images with real-time ultrasound.
  • Targeted biopsies are taken using a very fine needle, focusing on suspicious areas.
  • The entire biopsy process typically takes less than 30 minutes.

Important Notes:

  • Please arrange for someone to drive you home after the biopsy procedure.
  • You’ll be able to resume normal activities shortly after the biopsy, but should avoid strenuous exercise for a day or two.
