Kidney Stone Being Broken by Lithotripsy

             Before                                 After

Lithotripsy is a method of breaking up a kidney stone while it's still in your body.  It's a noninvasive procedure that does not require incisions.  During lithotripsy x-ray images carefully direct focused shock waves to the stone.  Once the shock waves reach the stone they release their energy causing it to crumble into sandlike particles.  These particles then can pass out of your urinary tract with the normal flow of urine.

The Outpatient Surgery Center is also conveniently located on the lower floor of North Elam Medical Plaza.  Patients will check in at the Wesley Long Surgery Center to have a lithotripsy performed.
